Marthe Lallemand received a master’s diploma from the Toulouse Institute of Art (France) in 2017 and a post-graduate degree in Graphic Arts and Painting from the Leipzig Academy of Fine Arts in 2024.
Having traveled extensively, she gained experience in theater, carpentry, painting, and film set design. Her work explores the history of image reproduction, particularly the relationship between copy and original. Since 2014, she has incorporated mass media and personal snapshots into her art, introducing the concept of masking her paintings.
In 2018, she worked with director Abdelatif Kechiche, an experience that sparked her interest in exploring the mechanisms of cinema within the context of her masking technique.
While studying under Professorin Kerstin Drechsel, her artistic research focused on themes of ornamentation and camouflage in painting, approached from a feminist perspective. Her work often draws on real-life references, and during her studies at the Leipzig Academy, she also delved into the historical archives of her grandfather, a prisoner of war during World War II in North Saxony.
Lallemand has exhibited her work in various solo and group shows since 2009, including at the Amsterdam Royal Gallery (2011), Inund’Art Festival (2017), Le Lieu-Commun (2018), Berggut Oschatz– “Lallemand-e I Die Deutsche – Akt 1 (2023) with the support of KDFS, and Technespehere – “Lallemand-e I Die Deutsche” (2024).
